Development of cinema in Africa: the urgency of a shift

As part of our program of discussions and exchanges, VOX -ARTIS, we proposed a conference with journalist and film critic Baba Diop.

Baba Diop is a Senegalese journalist , film critic and screenwriter.

After teaching journalism for more than a decade at the University Cheikh Anta Diop (CESTI) Baba Diop teach later at the Science of Information and Communication  Institute (ISSIC) and the Gaston Berger University of Saint- Louis (Master 2 creative documentary ).

Former president of the Senegalese Association of Film Critics ( FACC, Dakar) . He has published numerous articles on cinema and has collaborated books on African cinema.


The conference was moderate by Massamba Mbaye, journalist, art critic, exhibition curator, historian of communication theories and graduated in marketing. President of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA ) . Actualy Mbaye served as CEO of DMedia which publishes magazines such as Dakar Life, Zeina , the daily La Tribuneand and has in its portfolio Zik fm radio and Sen tv, among others. He is a member of the editorial board of Afrik'Arts, visual arts magazine published by the Dakar Biennale.
