Freya Rachel Edmondes

Freya Edmondes is an improvising lyricist, beat producer and visual artist best known in her solo performance as Elvin Brandhi and performances, public interventions and releases as Yeah You, the father-daughter improvised pop duo dedicated to making music anywhere at anytime. Yeah You have released tapes on Good Food, Psykick Dancehall and Slip as well as self-releasing much video and audio content. As a regular performer in the free music scene since 2013 she has collaborated with many improvisors including Rhodri Davies, Eugene Chadbourne, Michael Fischer, John Bowers, THF Drenching, Alan Wilkinson, Noid, WIDT, and the maverick former Jungle Brothers MC Sensational. At the 2016 Guelph Jazz Festival and Colloquium (Guelph, Ontario, Canada), she gave a joint paper on dismantling the frameworks and protocols of improvised music (‘Creative Agency, Quotidian Routines & Situated Performance as Critical Praxis’). The duo Yeah You also carried out several pop-up performances around Guelph throughout the festival. At the 2016 Borealis Festival, Bergen, Norway, she gave an artist talk and took part in a public panel discussion at the Bergen Kunsthall. In 2017 she was given a PRS Oram Award for Innovative Female Musicians; part of the award includes a commission to produce new work at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. She lives and works in London.
