Miriro Mwandiambira

Miriro Mwandiambira was born in 1994 in Harare, Zimbabwe. Following graduation from the National Gallery of Zimbabwe Visual Art Studio in 2014, Miriro joined Chinembiri studios, as an artist in residence and First Floor Gallery Harare. As an artist, Mwandiambira is interested in lives of young women living in Harare, their loves, obsessions and points of views. As a social commentator and storyteller, she identifies with her contemporaries and creates sculptures, installations and performances at times humorous, at times dramatic and poignant. Working with materials largely associated with the lives of women from curtains and tablecloths to weaves, shoes and acrylic nails, Mwandiambira actively asserts her role as a female artist and the female voice in a landscape dominated by male artists. Having begun her art practice making process driven and issue-based work, Mwandiambira grew to incorporate the making of work and engaging with her work into her practice, developing over time more focused performance pieces. She lives and works in Harare.
