Winifer Estevez

My name is Winifer Estevez, and I am an afro-latina artist living and working in New Jersey. I graduated from the art program at William Paterson University with a BFA in Fine Arts and a minor in Art History. I am a conceptual artist who genuinely enjoys working with multiple mediums. As a resilient and determined immigrant from the Dominican Republic, who moved to the United States at the age of five, I have successfully overcome difficult transitions and experienced many victories due to my resilient nature. This transition is responsible for my adventurous and nomadic spirit, and it has also taught me a lot about adapting quickly to vastly different environments.

As a result of my adventurous and fiery artistic spirit, politics, human rights issues, and the beauty and ugliness of all forms of nature permeate my work. I believe that I have a responsibility as an artist to document the times I am living in. Thanks to the guidance and mentorship of a master artist, I have been able to acquire advanced skills in various forms of art, such as painting, printmaking, sculpting and theatre design. I am confident in my traditional and instinctual skills, which has allowed me to support myself as a freelance artist and inspire many artists around me.

Additionally, prior to earning my BFA, I assumed that people without money or connections couldn’t make it in such a lucrative field, and this was a concern of mine because of my humble beginnings. However, this changed once my knowledge of art history broadened and I learned about the trials and tribulations of many famous artists. This newfound knowledge sparked a fire inside of my soul and made me truly believe in myself, proving that I had the power to inspire others. This is my life goal, to inspire others to believe in their gifts no matter where they come from, what gender or race they are. Through love, hard work and devotion - anything is achievable.
