Younès Ben Slimane

Younès Ben Slimane's practice lies at the crossroads of cinema, architecture and the visual arts. His film and installation work aims to create a dialogue between these different media, the better to unfold their potential and their limits.

For him, architecture is akin to cinema in that it can also be perceived as a succession of sequences, a story that is equally capable of providing a sensitive and emotional experience. His works explore the spirit of places, with a particular interest in their memorial and poetic charge.

Through experimental cinema, he redraws the contours of a sensory cartography of places, where memory and materiality are inextricably linked. Ben Slimane's work is rooted in a quest for traces, gestures and atmospheres.

His work has been shown at Documenta fifteen Mobile Lab in Cassel (DE), Mucem in Marseille (FR), the Contemporary African Art Biennial in Dakar (SN), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje (MK), the Arab World Institute in Paris (FR), the Wexner Center for the Arts in Ohio (US) and the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm (SE).

His films have been selected for international festivals such as the Locarno Film Festival (CH), CPH:DOX (DK), DokuFest (XK) and the Prismatic Ground Film Festival in New York (US), among others.

He has taken part in several residencies, including the Villa Médicis in Rome (IT) and the Fondation Thalie in Brussels (BE) in 2024, the Fondation Fiminco in Romainville (FR) in 2023, as well as the Internationale City of the Arts in Paris (FR) in 2022. His work is part of collections including those of the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) and the Kadist Art Foundation Paris-San Francisco.
